Martin Luehrmann is a science writer focused on life and natural sciences, including nature, evolution, and medicine. 

He has a PhD in neuroscience from the University of Queensland, Australia, a MSc in biological oceanography from the University of Rostock, a BSc in biology from the University of Cologne, and a Diploma in Secondary Education from Edith Cowan University, Australia. During his studies, he also had the opportunity to volunteer at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego, California.

Martin has worked in research roles at the University of Queensland for several years and has taught science at various schools across Australia. Since 2022, he is a freelance writer offering scientific writing and editing services. 

In addition to his personal science blog here at Oddly Interesting…, Martin previously wrote for Australian GeographicThe Applied Ecologist and Functional Ecologists of the British Ecological Society, and he has contributed to the Queensland Brain Institute’s in-house periodic magazine The Brain. His research has been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Molecular Ecology, Journal of Experimental Biology, Genome Biology and Evolution, Functional Ecology, and Environmental Biology of Fishes

Martin is a fan of the Boston Celtics, a keen SCUBA diver, having dived in Australia, Indonesia, and the US, and enjoys playing the piano.

He lives with his wife and two cats, Dobby and Chewbacca, near Munich, Germany.
